Flat Rock
Middle School
25 Book Reading
Program
Twice during the
school year,
students take the
Scholastic Reading
Inventory (SRI) to
determine their
current reading
ability. The SRI
test measures a
student’s Lexile
level. Throughout
the school year,
students will take
Reading Counts
quizzes to
demonstrate
understanding and
proficiency of a
book. Students will
be encouraged to
select independent
reading material
within their Lexile
range. A student’s
Lexile range would
be determined to be
100L below to 50L
above their Lexile
score on the SRI.
All students in
Grades 6-8 are
expected to read 25
books or their
equivalents during
the school
year as required by
the Georgia
Performance
Standards in
reading. The
25 Book Reading
Program will count
10% of a student's
Reading grade.
